Wenn ich unsterblich wäre, könnte ich alles machen, worauf ich Lust hätte. Klingt doch gut.
Aber was heißt denn unsterblich? Heißt unsterblich zu sein, nie zu altern? Aber dann wäre ich ja immer ein neugeborenes Baby. Oder gar ein Embryo. Oder würde ich zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt aufhören zu altern? Mit 10, mit 20 oder mit 50? Aber könnte ich mir das aussuchen? Wer legt das fest? Oder würde ich trotzdem körperlich altern und einfach nie an Altersschwäche sterben? Und irgendwann ans Bett gefesselt sein, ohne die Möglichkeit, irgendwann einfach einzuschlafen und nie wieder aufzuwachen?
Und wenn ich unsterblich bin, heißt das nur, dass ich keinen natürlichen Tod sterben kann, oder bin ich dann auch unverwundbar?
Nehmen wir einmal an, ich höre mit 30 Jahren auf zu altern, bin unverwundbar und unsterblich. Da tun sich doch Möglichkeiten auf, oder?
Ich könnte studieren, einen Job bekommen, mit dem man richtig gut Geld verdient und einen Haufen Kohle ansparen, um irgendetwas anderes zu studieren. Nach ein paar hundert Jahren hätte ich dann alles studiert, was man studieren kann, ich hätte nebenher gelernt, beinahe jedes Instrument zu spielen, weil ich, wenn ich ein Instrument kann, einfach ein anderes lerne. Natürlich würde ich nie ein Profi werden, aber ich wäre ein typischer Alleskönner!
Ich könnte extrem dick werden, nur um mal zu wissen, wie das ist – nur um gleich danach wieder abzunehmen und Sportler zu werden.
Ich könnte auch den Weg des schnellen Geldes einschlagen: Verbrecher werden. Banküberfall? Kein Problem, mir kann ja nichts passieren. Auf der Flucht kann ich mich in Schluchten stürzen, ohne Fallschirm aus dem Flugzeug springen, oder mich absichtlich überfahren lassen, damit die Polizei denkt, ich sei tot. Wenn ich erwischt werde, macht mir das nichts aus, ich kann meine Haftstrafe auch absitzen, ich hab ja Zeit!
Im Gefängnis könnte ich dann alle Bücher lesen, die je geschrieben wurden, jedes Musikstück (außer vielleicht Justin Bieber) hören, das je komponiert wurde. Ich könnte mich erhängen, um auszubrechen und auf der Verfolgungsjagd eine Explosion überleben, von der keiner glaubt, dass ich sie überlebt habe.
Problematisch würde das ganze dann werden, wenn die Menschen merken, dass ich nicht altere. Wie erklärt man seiner Freundin, dass sie immer älter wird, man selber aber nicht? Ich bin ein Vampir? Das funktioniert vielleicht in Twilight, aber ich möchte, ehrlich gesagt, nicht in der Sonne glitzern!
Da lasse ich mich lieber zum Kanzler wählen, mit zeitlosen Themen. Oder gleich eine wohlwollende Diktatur gründen? Die Problematik des Nachfolgers entfällt, ich könnte für immer über mein Volk herrschen und zwar so, dass es ihm gut geht. Ich hätte es nicht nötig, mich am Volk zu bereichern oder einzelne Bevölkerungsschichten zu unterdrücken.
Ja, unsterblich zu sein bietet viele Vorteile, Nachteile allerdings auch:
- der ständige Verlust von Menschen, die einem wichtig sind
- Erklärungsnot gegenüber Freunden
- viel Zeit im Gefängnis
- die Gefahr, Versuchskaninchen für die CIA o.ä. zu werden
- nie sterben zu können!
Ich bin ganz froh, zu wissen, dass es mit dem Leben irgendwann vorbei ist. Ganz ehrlich, der Tod ist ein Ausgang, der einem offensteht, und diesen Ausgang möchte ich nicht missen!
